What is Casual Diving on your yacht charter

Casual diving is perfect for those who want to do 1-4 dives during their week-long charter vacation. Most crewed charter yachts offer this option. Enjoy plenty of time for other activities like kayaking, fishing, sailing, eating, relaxing, and maybe a drink or two

How are air tanks filled on a casual SCUBA yacht?

Casual diving yacht charters typically carry one tank per person, refilled onshore during lunch at a beach restaurant. This often means detours for tank refills while traveling between anchorages. Night diving is rarely offered. Ideal for mixed groups, these trips ashore for air fills often provide time for shopping or soaking in the local flavor.

Casual SCUBA diving yachts are a good fit for leisurely divers. Dedicated dive charters are available, too, and can cater to both specialized and casual diving.

What is Rendezvous Diving?

Have you considered trying Rendez Vous Diving? Ideal for those who want a dive or two and want to pick a charter yacht that does not offer SCUBA onboard.

The Captain will simply contact a local dive shop, and a Dive Professional will pick you up, take you to the dive site, and bring you back.

The rest of your group can head to the beach or, in some cases, get dropped off at a different location. Sometimes, the dive shop boat can meet you at the dive site, allowing non-divers to snorkel and watch the divers. How convenient!

Can I rent gear to SCUBA dive on a yacht?

Diving with local experts provides invaluable insight. They know the best spots for marine life, from octopus hideouts to lobster nests.

Most places offer rental gear, including compressors, often delivered directly to your boat if you are captain of your yacht. You can also get a brief consultation to answer any questions.

Dedicated dive moorings in many areas simplify locating the best dive sites.

Can I bring my SCUBA dive gear?

With rising baggage fees and the hassle of carrying heavy dive gear, more people opt to rent equipment for casual diving.

However, always bring your personal mask, regulator, and dive computer. These items are tailored to you.

A poorly fitting mask can ruin your dive. Trust me, Iā€™ve had my share of struggles with ill-fitting masks on boats.

If traveling with regulators and computers, keep them with you. They can sometimes go missing, especially in transfers to the Caribbean via Puerto Rico.

Can I bring a pony bottle or spare air?

If airline staff or customs detect extra small tanks, they will require the valve not attached so they can see inside the bottle. If the valve is on the bottle, they may confiscate it!

I recommend leaving it at home for your diving vacation if it entails a luxury yacht charter.
