Sailing Adventure in the British Virgin Islands
Yesterday, I had the chance to join a group of yacht charter brokers on a sailing day trip from Tortola over to Benures Bay on Norman Island. The crew running the charter were a team of experienced sailors from New Zealand, who recently purchased the Balance 630 catamaran named Awatea.
The Experienced New Zealand Crew
The three-person crew, led by Captain Fraser, welcomed us aboard and immediately made us feel at home. Fraser’s passion for the sea and coastal cruising was evident in his enthusiastic storytelling about his sailing adventures around New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, and the Mediterranean over the years.
Delicious New Zealand-Inspired Cuisine
Once we set sail, the crew opened up their home to us, providing a taste of their hospitality and service. Chef Olivia prepared a delicious New Zealand-inspired lunch spread, including a traditional Braai (South African barbecue) with grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, and a refreshing salad. Her culinary skills and presentation were top-notch.
Family-Friendly Yacht and Water Activities
In addition to the fantastic food, the crew made sure we had ample opportunity to enjoy the water activities. They brought out an array of toys, from the electric Efoil surfboard to stand-up paddleboards and snorkeling gear. It was the perfect way to relax and soak up the Caribbean sun. The yacht is very family-friendly, with ample space and amenities to accommodate groups of all ages.
Breathtaking Sail Back to Tortola
The highlight of the day was the sail back to Tortola in the golden afternoon light. The catamaran sliced through the waves effortlessly, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of the British Virgin Islands. The seamless service, delightful crew, and well-equipped yacht made this a truly unforgettable experience.
