Captain Andre
Andre brings decades of maritime and aviation expertise to the helm. His impressive career began as a helicopter pilot in the South African Air Force, where he served for 25 years before transitioning to commercial aviation. As an offshore pilot flying to oil rigs off Newfoundland’s coast, he accumulated over 7,000 flight hours. His maritime credentials are equally impressive, with more than 35,000 nautical miles under his belt, sailing across the South African coast, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, and Florida’s east coast. Andre holds a South African Sailing Yacht Master Offshore certificate, Master of Yachts 200T Commercial license, STCW certification, and First Aid qualifications. His passion for teaching sailing makes him an ideal instructor for guests interested in learning catamaran handling.
Chef Allison
Allison’s sailing journey began in Zimbabwe, piloting Optimists and crewing on Flying Dutchmen with her father. Her maritime expertise includes an offshore Captain’s license and over 30,000 nautical miles of experience spanning the South African coast, Atlantic crossing, and extensive sailing throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Florida coast. Her professional background as a Registered Nurse, specializing in neonatal care and operating room procedures, brings valuable medical expertise aboard. She holds certifications in Basic Life Support, CPR, and First Aid. Allison’s culinary skills blend South African and African traditional cuisine with Mediterranean influences, ensuring guests experience exceptional hospitality and memorable meals. Her natural affinity with children and passion for marine life make her an excellent guide for families, particularly during snorkeling and diving adventures.
Dynamic Duo
Andre and Allison, married for 37 years, share a profound connection to the sea that began even before their wedding. Their journey together started with racing Hobie Cats and progressed to larger catamarans along South Africa’s challenging coastlines. A significant milestone in their sailing career came in 2011 when they competed in the Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro Yacht Race aboard their catamaran “Rat Catcher,” securing second place in their class. Both are qualified PADI and SSI Open Water Scuba Instructors, combining their love for sailing with underwater exploration.
Their shared expertise, warm South African hospitality, and intimate knowledge of the Caribbean islands position them perfectly to create unforgettable charter experiences. Whether you’re interested in learning to sail, exploring underwater wonders, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Caribbean, Andre and Allison’s extensive experience and passionate approach ensure an exceptional journey. True to their South African roots, they bring both professional excellence and genuine warmth to every charter, making your Caribbean sailing dreams a reality.
