Yacht Insight
Daydream catamaran is a yacht that can handle all the SCUBA diving in the Virgin Islands that you can throw at it! Rusty Day, owner and Captain, has been running the kids SCUBA programs in the Caribbean for decades with Manta.
Not only does Rusty know every possible dive spot and snorkel spot in the British Virgin Islands, but night dives and an educational portion for SCUBA divers are no problem at all.
S/V DayDream catamaran sails with twin Yanmar diesel engines, ready for calm days without wind. Her daggerboards enhance her performance in open waters and allow navigation in shallow areas. Designed with 4 guest cabins and a separate crew cabin, she comfortably accommodates everyone on board. For the adventurous, there’s the option to set up a hammock in the roomy cockpit or rigging. A generous swim platform and forward lockers are perfect for diving enthusiasts, making pre-dive prep seamless. Her well-equipped galley ensures a pleasant stay at sea.
Looking for a casual beach bar-to-beach bar hop in the Virgin Islands with a cocktail in hand floating around? No problems, Daydream Catamaran has you covered there too!

CAPTAIN RUSTY DAY
Meet Captain Dr. Rusty, the sea explorer who’s not just at the helm but also deeply involved in marine science. As the lead of MANTA (Marine Science & Nautical Training Academy) since 2009, he combines his love for the sea with his passion for education. Operating from the yacht DayDream, MANTA focuses on marine education and research—a cause your charter supports directly.
Born into a seafaring family, Rusty navigated towards a career encapsulating his love for the ocean. After earning his degrees in Biology and Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina and College of Charleston and supplementing that with a PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Pau, France, he explored various marine ecosystems with NOAA and NIST, contributing significantly to scientific knowledge through numerous publications.
But Rusty’s expertise continues beyond research. A certified PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer with a 200-ton Master Captain’s License, he’s as comfortable under the sea as he is above it, ready to enrich your diving experience by sharing his vast knowledge of marine life.
Whether it’s leading dives, identifying marine species, or showcasing the intricacies of the ocean’s ecosystem through onboard slideshows, Rusty turns every charter into a journey of discovery. So, when you set sail with Captain Rusty, you’re not just embarking on an adventure but also contributing to marine science education that nurtures future protectors of our oceans.
