Update: May 14th, 2020. News has reached us today that ZOZO’s H2O will NOT be reopening on Lovango Cay. BUT Zozo’s will be opening in Caneel Bay on St John again!!!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting ZoZo’s restaurant on Lovango Cay in the US Virgin Islands. ZoZo’s was a long time fixture in Caneel Bay on St. John but unfortunately was a casualty of Irma and Maria in 2017. They selected a picturesque spot right on the beach in Lovango Cay to reopen their doors last week. And it is truly stunning!
How to Reach ZoZo’s
You will undoubtedly need a boat to reach ZoZo’s. There is a ferry from St. John, but the best way to enjoy the day is by private boat. And you can drop your anchor right in front of the restaurant. Furthermore, a dinghy is sent to greet you and take you ashore.
ZoZo’s Restaurant
The new ZoZo’s has a fantastic menu of exciting cocktails you won’t find elsewhere. And a cuisine for every palate. It’s the only place in the Caribbean I know of that has a muffuletta sandwich. First made famous by Central Grocery in New Orleans. Or try the seared scallop caesar salad. Truly delicious!

What Else is There to Do on Lovango
There are sizeable multi-passenger ATVs at Lovango that will take you to the top of the island for some picturesque hiking. And it’s free! Just tip your driver. Or bring your snorkel gear for some great snorkeling. Lovango has a great reef. And you’ll be sure to see all kinds of tropical fish. Maybe even a barracuda, stingray, or sea turtle. February is whale season, and a boat captain just told me a few days ago they spotted a humpback whale and her baby in the channel.
Shopping on Lovango
You won’t find lots of shopping at Lovango, but ZoZo’s does have a cute little shop to pick up souvenirs to capture your day. Beach towels and clothing seem to be the main items. But they also have some adorable glassware you can take back to your private boat to remember your day.

What Else is Near Lovango
Lovango is closest to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. On a private boat, you can be there in a matter of minutes. Or you can take a private yacht from St. Thomas and be there in less than 30 minutes. Continue after Lovango, and you’ll reach Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. Just be sure to check in to customs if you are entering from the US. The customs dock is near Foxy’s famous bar.
